Tech Notes - Additional Software

Acrobat Reader
The free Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to view, navigate, and print PDF documents across all major computing platforms. Acrobat Reader is the free viewing companion to Adobe Acrobat® 3.0 and to Acrobat Capture® software.

Portable Document Format (PDF) is the de facto standard for electronic distribution of documents because it's the best way to keep the original look and feel of your document. PDF files are compact, cross platform and can be viewed by anyone with a free Acrobat Reader.

Additional benefits of using PDF:

  • PDF files can be distributed globally via email, the Web, corporate intranets, or CD-ROM.
  • Acrobat Reader's navigation and zoom features enable closer review of PDF file text and images, even within your browser!
  • PDF files can be easily viewed and printed one page at a time.
  • Links, annotations, live forms, security options, video, and sound can be added to PDF files for enhanced online viewing with Adobe Acrobat 3.0.
NOTE: You will need to install Acrobat Reader if you want to view PDF documents found on our CD-ROMs.

QuickTime
QuickTime is the Apple technology that makes video, sound, music, 3D and virtual reality come alive for Macintosh and Windows. Now QuickTime takes multimedia capabilities to the next level.

NOTE: Many programs using audio and video require QuickTime to be installed on your computer before using the software.

If you are experiencing video and sound difficulties, see the QuickTime Solutions page for troubleshooting solutions.
