Q: How can I fix Printing Problems in Diorama Designer?
A: Printing problems in Diorama Designer have usually been traced to a corrupt or un-updated configuration or preference file. Print jobs may fail altogether, or else print out incorrectly. You may receive a “Printer cannot be found” message. If you run into such difficulties deleting the configuration file should fix your problem. On PC , follow these steps to delete your Diorama Designer configuration file:
- Exit from Diorama Designer .
- Open your C:\WINDOWS\TSP directory (or C:\WINNT\TSP for Windows 2000 users)
- Delete the Diorama Designer configuration file, “ Diorama.cfg ”
- Restart your PC.
- Launch Diorama Designer and send a print job to the printer. A new configuration file will be created automatically at this point.
On a Macintosh , follow these steps to delete your Diorama Designer preference file:
- Exit from Diorama Designer.
- Open your Macintosh Hard Drive : System Folder : Preferences : TSP folder.
- Delete the “ Diorama Preferences ” file.
- Launch Diorama Designer and try printing. (You do not need to restart your Mac.) A new configuration file will be created automatically at this point.
If deleting this file fails to fix your problem, then you may not be using the most appropriate and up-to-date print driver for your operating system and printer model. Most printer manufacturers post regular updates to their print drivers on their websites.

Q: Diorama Designer does not fill my screen. How can I enlarge the display?
A:Diorama Designer was designed for a display resolution of 640X480 . If the program does not fill your screen, you can correct this by reducing your display resolution to 640X480 , using the following instructions. If at a later time you wish to return to your original resolution, follow these steps and switch from 640X480 to your earlier settings. On a Mac of OS 8 or 9 , you can set your screen resolution through the Apple Menu , under the Control Panels list.
- Open the Monitors control panel.
- Your current resolution setting will be listed to the right of the Monitors control panel. Make a note of this current setting for future reference.
- Select the 640X480 resolution option in the list on the right hand side.
- Close the Monitors control panel.
On a Mac OS 10 system, running the program in Classic Mode, set your screen resolution in the OS X environment, prior to launching the application, and it should carry through into Classic.
- From the Apple Menu , click System Preferences .
- Click the Displays icon, listed in the Hardware subsection.
- To the left, in the Resolutions field, make a note of your current setting and select 640X480 . Your screen should automatically resize at this point.
- Close System Preferences and launch your classic application.
On a PC running Windows 95, 98 or 2000 , you can set your screen resolution through your Display control panel.
- Right-click on the desktop and choose ‘ properties' to open the Display Control Panel.
- Click the Settings tab. Your resolution setting will be displayed to the left. Make a note of it for future reference.
- Use the slider bar to select a screen resolution of 640X480 and click OK
- Agree to accept the changes in the verification prompt that follows.
On a Windows XP computer, you cannot set your global resolution to 640x480 . To view the program in this resolution you will need to adjust the application's properties by following the steps listed below. Note: These instructions are only valid for the stand-alone product, and will not work for network-based installations of Diorama Designer .
- In the Start Menu 's All Programs list, with the CD present in the CD-ROM drive, right-click on the shortcut for Diorama Designer .
- Choose ‘ properties ' from the menu that appears.
- Click the ‘ Compatibility ' tab.
- Put a check in the box for “ Run in 640x480 screen resolution .”
- Click OK to close the dialog.
The next time you launch the application, your display will resize to 640X480 and it will return to its previous settings when the program closes. Top
Q: When I try to save my work (on Windows 2000 or XP ) I get the message: "The Tao that is seen is not the true Tao. Until you make space your disk is full."
A: This error has only been reported on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The product has not been Quality Assurance approved for these operating systems, but many customers do use Diorama Designer on Windows 2000 and Windows XP and never encounter this error. If you encounter this error, here are your workaround options:
- Save to a different physical drive, such as a server, floppy disk, Zip disk, or your computer's hard drive (assuming this isn't where you were saving in the first place.)
- Use the program on its recommended operating systems, Windows 95/98/98SE or Macintosh OS 7-9.

Q: The contextual help feature (which appears as a small beaver holding a “Help” sign) is not working on my Windows 2000 and XP workstations.
A: This is a known error that can occur when the program is run on Windows 2000 and Windows XP . Under normal conditions, clicking on the beaver should enable the contextual help option, which activates when you roll your mouse over the various elements on screen in Diorama Designer. Although we do not officially recommend this product for use with these operating systems, many of our customers do use Diorama Designer on Windows 2000 and Windows XP and do not run into this problem. One way to fix this problem if it does occur is to decrease your computers Graphics Hardware Acceleration level. To adjust your Graphics Hardware Acceleration level on Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP:
- Right-click on your desktop and choose ‘properties' to bring up your Display control panel.
- Click the ‘Settings' tab.
- Click the ‘Advanced' button to bring up your display adapter's ‘Properties' dialog.
- Click the “Troubleshooting” tab.
- Take a note of the current position of the Hardware Acceleration slider for future reference.
- Click and drag the slider's position down by one notch.
- Click OK to the two open dialogs and check for any improvements in Diorama Designer.
It is impossible to predict what exact setting will be the most helpful for your problem and your computer. You may need to reiterate the process a few times before getting any positive response.
